History of Animation

After studying literature, art history and media studies at the University of Konstanz and Trinity College in Dublin, I started my career as a trainee at the local film fund of Baden-Württemberg. In 2002, I joined Filmakademie’s newly founded Animationsinstitut as an Artistic Assistant, and later became Curriculum Supervisor and Head of Studies there. As project coordinator, I was in charge of supervising the students’ thesis projects.

During my time at Filmakademie, I have been involved in many international projects: For the FMX conference, I worked as programme co-ordinator and host, and, together with Constanze Bühner, I have been organising the annual network meeting of animation educators, Animation Schools Exchange. Since 2008, I am in charge of the European talent programme Animation Sans Frontières at the Animationsinstitut.

In my PhD thesis project on the topic of Water in Animation Films at the University of Tuebingen (Institute of Media Studies), I could combine my work experience with a theoretical perspective on animation. Since 2015, I have been teaching seminars on the history of animation.
