The event is hosted and presented by the students themselves.
FILMGESTALTUNG 1 & 2 (CINEMATIC DESIGN 1 & 2)
Cinematic Design at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg is a field of study open to all students in the foundation courses – in the first year as a mandatory course, in the second year as an elective. Experimenting is not simply allowed here but indeed encouraged. Without the common guidelines and limits of the market, Cinematic Design communicates intellectual approaches as well as methods of contemporary media. In consideration of many formal – often underrepresented – approaches, the students develop short films with exceptional and unique narratives. Based on these, a whole series of cinematic works is produced each year – captivating pieces due to their individual forms of expression.

Motion designers combine shapes, images and sounds to moving image formats that convey knowledge, entertain, and inspire at the interdisciplinary intersection of brand, product, and topic communication. The classic Motion Design is first and foremost the design of title sequences. Right now, we are experiencing that intros for Blockbuster series are becoming character defining icons of media and pop culture. But motion design appears in all formats – whether that is entertainment, education or information. The spectrum covers the whole range from visual, design-based stories to the transfer of knowledge and also new online formats using motion design for advertisement and marketing. It is also an integral part of almost any User Experience (UX) because our apps and computer games also apply motion design for orientation.
And Motion Design has conquered space, too – real and virtual, reactive and interactive. Whether it is for virtual reality applications, concert stages, trade fair booths or façade and wall projections: architecture, animation and motion design have found together. In a visually oriented society, motion designers anticipate and design cooperative projects together with students from the animation, cinematography, documentary, screenplay, TV journalism, cinematic experimentation, film music, interactive media, montage/editing, production, series, sound design, production design, and advertising film departments. In this way, transmedial skills and a sustained network in communication and designed are developing up until the diploma.

If you want to make your own animated film, create breath-taking visual effects or develop an interactive experience or game, you are in good hands at Animationsinstitut. The institute offers its students individual content supervision and subject-specific training with state-ofthe- art software and hardware technology. The two-year study period is the same for students of all subjects in the field of Film + Media. After the basic study period, the institute’s students can concentrate on their third-year and diploma projects during the 2,5-year project period. The Animationsinstitut views itself as an educational institute oriented on the practice. That is why the curriculum is part of a constantly expanding network of internationally renowned guest instructors, partners from the private sector, leading national and international film academies, and speakers from the FMX – Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Immersive Media, all of which offer students important networking and career opportunities. The Animationsinstitut’s alumni are in high-demand – even their diploma projects have had great success at big festivals. After completing their degree, graduates have been hired by renowned studios in Germany and abroad or have founded their own companies.
ANITRAILER / ANIPLAY
In the winter semester of the third year of studying at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg’s Animationsinstitut, in cooperation with the Stuttgart Media University (HdM) and the Trossingen University of Music, students developed a cross-media concept (Intellectual Property) which resulted in short films and an interactive experience. As third-year projects, these technologically innovative and stylistically very different animated short films and games had only four months of production time.
