Project Info

S.M.I.L.E. is an interactive hidden picture book for children aged five to seven years. Readers can interact with the analog world by means of augmented reality. Together with Lisa, the kids travel to different planets to spread laughter in the universe.

This prototype for an augmented reality children‘s book breaks new ground in interactive storytelling. In the game, a smartphone is used as a magic magnifier, as a tool to achieve a specific goal. S.M.I.L.E. thus allows children a gentle and responsible way to use a smartphone. Again and again, this interactive approach breaks through the barriers between the digital and the analog world. The puzzles in the book can be solved by clicking the screen as well as by coloring pictures or making things.
